Positive Thinking Your Key to Success

Success is everybody’s dream. But what is the key to success? How can you be successful? In my post about defining successful people, I wrote that we should measure success based on how much we give rather than how much we receive. Fortunately, it also works nicely the other way around since those who give more almost always will also receive more.

Based on that, you can see that the more value you give to others, the more successful you will be. So how do you pave your way to success? How do you become more successful? The answer is amazingly simple. Here it is:

The key to success is making yourself as useful as possible to others.


That’s it. Making yourself as useful as possible to others.

If you focus on applying this, others will realize the value they get from you and they will attract more people to come to you. These new people will also realize the value they get from you and they will attract even more people to come to you. The virtuous cycle begins and you are now on your way to success.

With this principle in mind, you should aim at increasing your usefulness to others. How do you do that? Here are some ideas:
Be observant of needs
To be useful to others, you should always be aware of even the slightest clues of needs. The more sensitive you are to the needs of others, the more appreciative people will eventually become. The best scenario is being able to anticipate a need before the other people are even aware of it.
Find solutions to the needs
Now that you are aware of needs, the next step is finding solutions to them. The solutions you offer should be as useful as possible. To be able to do so, there is no other way but to continuously build your own value. It is from the value you have that you could give value to others.
Be proactive to help
Do not wait for the other person to ask for your help. Be proactive. Give your help even before they ask.
Be sincere
What matters is not only the solution you offer, but also the way you deliver it. Being sincere means being glad to help others without expecting anything in return. Make it your joy to give something to others. People can somehow distinguish whether or not you are sincere.
Go the extra mile
Doing the above four steps is good, but add this one if you can: give more than expected. First, give what is expected, and then add a little more. If you do the above four steps people will be appreciative, but if you add this one step they will be impressed.


Positive thinking brings inner peace, success, improved relationships, better health, happiness and satisfaction. It also helps the daily affairs of life move more smoothly, and makes life look bright and promising.

Positive thinking is contagious. People around you pick your mental moods and are affected accordingly. Think about happiness, good health and success, and you will cause people to like you and desire to help you, because they enjoy the vibrations that a positive mind emits.

In order to make positive thinking yield results, you need to develop a positive attitude toward life, expect a successful outcome of whatever you do, but also take any necessary actions to ensure your success.

Effective positive thinking that brings results is much more than just repeating a few positive words, or telling yourself that everything is going to be all right. It has to be your predominant mental attitude. It is not enough to think positively for a few moments, and then letting fears and lack of belief enter your mind. Some effort and inner work are necessary.

Are you willing to make a real inner change?
Are you willing to change the way you think?
Are you willing to develop a mental power that can positively affect you, your environment and the people around you?


Here are a few actions and tips to help you develop the power of positive thinking:
Always use only positive words while thinking and while talking. Use words such as, 'I can', 'I am able', 'it is possible', 'it can be done', etc.

Allow into your awareness only feelings of happiness, strength and success.

Try to disregard and ignore negative thoughts. Refuse to think such thoughts, and substitute them with constructive happy thoughts.

In your conversation use words that evoke feelings and mental images of strength, happiness and success.

Before starting with any plan or action, visualize clearly in your mind its successful outcome. If you visualize with concentration and faith, you will be amazed at the results.

Read at least one page of inspiring book every day.

Watch movies that make you feel happy.

Minimize the time you listen to the news and read the papers.

Associate yourself with people who think positively.

Always sit and walk with your back straight. This will strengthen your confidence and inner strength.

Walk, swim or engage in some other physical activity. This helps to develop a more positive attitude.


Think positive and expect only favorable results and situations, even if your current circumstances are not as you wish them to be. In time, your mental attitude will affect your life and circumstances and change them accordingly.

Positive thinking is a mental attitude and state of mind, which focuses on the full half of the glass and not on the empty half.

Each goal accomplished, no matter how small it might be, will bring you more confidence, self-esteem and positive thinking.

At least once a day, think and try to come up with more ideas on how to think positively in various situations.

Be careful what mental images you let in into your mind. How you see yourself and your surroundings make a difference to your thinking. It is like watching a video. Eject the old video cassette or CD and insert a new and better one instead.

Understand that you cannot always control the situations in your life, but you can control and change your attitude and reactions. Negative attitude and anger will bring negative conditions, and positive attitude and positive feelings will make the situation improve.

Try to show some positive feelings toward people that you don't like. You don't need to be their friend, but you can stop being negative, and allow some feelings of warmth and understanding. You might be surprised at their attitude and reaction toward you.

Repeat affirmations such as:
"I am feeling happy and confident."

It is a well-known fact that when the state of economy is good, one has a satisfying and well paying steady job, one feels good and tends to be happier and more relaxed.

On the other hand, when the state of the economy looks bleak and unpromising, and one is jobless and lacks money, there is a tendency to think and feel negative about everything. There is no happiness and no inner peace.

Examine people’s attitude toward anything, and you will discover that is very much affected by circumstances and situations. It is so easy to accept negative thoughts in harsh circumstances and see everything crumbling down.

Acquiring a positive attitude is most important, even if it might not be so easy when your job is at risk, or when don’t have a job. You have to act as the gatekeeper of your mind and refuse entrance to thoughts about self-pity, failure and lack, and let in only thoughts about success and growth.


You might say that it is like cheating yourself, but it looks this way only in the beginning. Before long, your subconscious mind will accept the new reality you are creating in your mind, and will work overtime to make it be true, if only you let it, and don’t revert to negative and pessimistic thinking.


Here are a few tips to change your attitude when the economic condition is tough:
Stay away from people who keep complaining.
Don’t listen to the whiners and complainers and don’t get involved in their theories. Just because they are negative or failing does not mean you will too.
Stay away from negative people, and don’t let them suck your energy or distract you from your goals.
Cut on the time reading the papers and watching or listening to the news.
Surround yourself with positive people, who expect success.
Read books about people who achieved success and accomplished their goals.
Focus on your life as you would like them to be, and not as they are now.
Focus on what you want, and get busy working on making it come true.
Affirm the life you want.
Refuse to allow into your mind mental images of hard times and of the life you don’t really want. Focus on mental images and scenes of what you want to happen.
It is ok to daydream, but do so with a positive attitude, and be practical and willing to take action to make your daydream come true.
Be positive, but be also practical, keep an open mind, take action and do things.

Remember, even in the direst of economic and financial conditions there is a way out and up. There are people who fell really hard and deep down, and yet, got up on their feet and climbed again. You can do so too. This might require some effort and time on your part. Why invest your time and energy in thoughts and attitude that will only hurt you, when you can direct the same energy and time to ways that will benefit you?
